Borrowed Time

Hi, there! Thank you for visiting my blog. ゆるゆると、ゆる英語日記です。
You may or may not be interested in this, but this is the follow-up to the article “Laptop glitch.”
After searching on the Internet, the most likely cause of the problem with my laptop turned out to be the lithium coin cell battery inside running down.
(the bottom line: I replaced the coin cell battery myself and the pc bounced back from critical condition.)
As to replacing the battery on the motherboard myself, I had once given up the idea because many respondents on the online Q&A forums chorused, “Impossible with laptops. Take it to a repair shop,” and it could cost about 10,000 yen or more... That makes buying a new laptop seem rather sensible, considering mine is 6 years old.
The other day, however, I came across a blog by pc repair shop staff. They described how they fixed a customer’s laptop (the same model as mine) which had been malfunctioning for “unknown causes.”
It turned out that the coin cell battery inside was low and causing the trouble. The blog had several images that showed how to remove the battery, which didn’t seem as complicated as the forum respondents said.
Why not give it a shot?
I googled again for the pdf manual and checked what kind of cell battery I’d need and how to open the computer case. Dutifully following the instructions with great care, I managed to remove the old battery from the socket and set the new one in.
Now, my laptop boots without beeping and shows the correct time and date. I know my laptop is just living on borrowed time, but surviving anyway. I’m glad I didn’t just give up on it.
Thank you again for reading my blog♪
